Open Well Data

How to cite

Open Well Data is a finding aid. The data belongs to the people who collected it, so they come first in any citation.

Open Well Data is built and maintained by Daniel Delgado-Uriarte (LinkedIn, ORCID).

The catalogue is licensed CC BY-NC 4.0: free for study, teaching and non-commercial research, with credit. Commercial use needs a separate licence. The data of each source keeps its provider's licence. The code (the owd package and this site) is Apache 2.0.

In a paper, thesis or report

  1. Cite each dataset you used as its provider asks. Every record page has a ready citation with the provider, address and access date.
  2. Cite Open Well Data when the catalogue, its verification, the channel dictionary, the unit checks or the coverage tables helped your work.
  3. Say which catalogue build you used. Records change as sources are re-checked; the build date pins what you saw.
